Welcome to IUP's Science Festival Home Page!

The Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Science Festival is being held on the IUP Campus on Monday May 3rd, 2010, from 8:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.  The program consists of participation in exciting hands-on science activities in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geoscience, Physics, Psychology, and Mathematics, and will be free of charge to all participants.

Each teacher and student group can choose five topics that would be of the most interest from the list of 29 activities offered. In addition, lunch will be provided at no cost to those attending and prizes and awards will be given out.

Participation by sophomore and junior students and their teachers is encouraged, and due to the limitations in space, it will be limited to the first 500 students/teachers who apply. Registration by teachers can be done in February, 2010 (students: do not register directly - contact your teacher if you are interested). Registration may be done electronically using the registration form or by mail (call 724/357-2609 for a registration form).  We will attempt to accommodate all requests for specific activities but other exciting and appropriate programs will be substituted when necessary due to size limits.

Currently the number of students graduating from high school who express an interest in pursuing a career in science is down to less than 6.7% from the fifty year traditional average of over 7.1% and appears to be continuing to decline.  One of the purposes of the Science Festival is to demonstrate to students that science is a valuable and fun activity that makes a rewarding career, both financially and personally.

If you have questions or desire further information, please do not hesitate to call the IUP College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at 724/357-2609,  e-mail science-fest@iup.edu, or write to the IUP College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Indiana, PA 15705.
